Jenny’s story - We organise, you socialise!

How I wish all we had had to do was to hand over the funds to a company and let them do all the hard work for us getting us deals etc.

Organising our Debs was extremely difficult. We had about thirty people on the committee in September of our L.C. year. Nobody really knew what to do or where to start. Soon lots of the girls thought it was taking up too much of their time and they started feeling guilty about taking time away from studying etc. It ended up that myself and one other girl were left to organise the lot.

Thankfully we had a good system for collecting money and I was pretty good at maths.
If that’s all we had to do it would’ve been a piece of cake!
How I wish all we had had to do was to hand over the funds to a company and let them do all the hard work for us getting us deals etc. While good with figures, I was useless at negotiating deals.

We had to practically beg the hotels to let us hold our Debs there never mind to ask for deals!
Hotel managers didn’t want to know as we had no-one to vouch for us. We almost didn’t get a hotel when eventually at the end of May - when I should have been swotting for my exams - a hotel in the Midlands came through for us.

The bus companies were less than pleased to have a large group of late teens for half the night on a bus and to be honest either were we!
They charged us a fortune due to the distance and time it took to get there and back but it was the best we could come up with. It was a bit of a dump and we were definitely well over-charged for the slop they served us. Nobody even ate it! Overall, it was a near disaster and I wouldn’t say it was the fantastic night we had all been dreaming of but we couldn’t not have a debs.

My biggest regret was leaving booking everything til so late and my studies suffering as a result.
The amount of work and the stress that comes with it is phenomenal, students have no idea when they first form a committee. Take my word for it!

I would advise next year’s committee and every other after that to jump at the chance of lettings a Debs planner to organise the night.

Your committee can still be involved in the whole process, just not stressed out, a no brainer!

You’d be a fool not to. And seeing as they guarantee the best deals, what have you got to lose? Absolutely nothing!
